Abstract
The effect of persimmon fruit extract(PEE) on neutral lipid and cholesterol levels were studied in hipercholesterolemia rats induced by 1.0%-cholesterol. The concentrated persimmon fruit extract(PFE) was prepared by extraction of the fruit of presimmon(Diospyros kaki L.) with 80%-ethanol, and concentrated under reduced pressure. Persimmon fruit extract(0, 100, 200, 400§·/§¸ BW) administered orally to Sprague Dawley rats(male, 150¡¾10g) with high-cholesterol diets for 4 week. There were no significant differences in food intake of persimmon fuit extract(PFE) groups. Body weights gain were inhibited by 10¡15% in PFE groups, but there were no significant differences in dose of PFE. These results indicate that inhibitory effects on body weight gain were due to decrease of feed and gross efficiencies of diets. Neutral lipid(TG) levels were remarkably decreased by 20¡25% in PFE groups of 100 and 200§·/§¸ BW(p<0.01). Cholesterol levels showed a similar trend to their neutral lipid, and were significantly decreased by 12¡18% in PFE group(p<0.05-0.001). These results suggest that the fruit of persimmon may be used as a very valuable modulator on inhibition of neutral lipid and cholesterol levels in serum of hypercholesterolemic rats.
